One of my favorite comic strips: Ballard Street

Ballard Street is one of my favorite comic strips because of its surreal humor. They are drawn by Jerry Van Amerongen. My favorite character is the dog Scooter.

Beautiful Code: Leading Programmers Explain How They Think review

At first I was excited about this book but after I started to read it I totally agree with the following review:

Movie tip of the day: Sleuth

On his sprawling country estate, an aging writer matches wits with the struggling actor who has stolen his wife's heart.

Few facts:

  • Remake of the 1972 movie with the same title
  • In the 1972 movie Michael Cane played the part of Milo Tindle; now Jude Law plays it and Michael Cane is Andrew Wyke
  • The film was shot entirely in sequence (thanks to imdb for the info)
  • Other smart things but they would be spoilers

Update Scanner Firefox extension

The Update Scanner Firefox extension monitors web sites and alerts you whenever the site updates its content. While RSS feeds have put an end to your days constantly refreshing most sites worth their salt, there are still web pages that lack feeds that you may want to keep an eye on.

In an older post I said that Clive Barker's Jericho is "a good game to play". This guy thinks otherwise:

Two things that I consider REALLY good

ted - Torrent episode downloader
Before I stumbled into this small handy software I spent days every week looking for my favorite episodes on the net. This small program searches for your episodes' torrents, downloads them and launches them with your default torrent program.

Youtorrent.com
YouTorrent is a real-time torrent comparison search engine. This site searches around 14 other torrent sites, prioritizes the results and displays them while looking really-really good.

Mehida - Dry Bones Lyrics

Our bones are dried and our hope is lost
We're completely gone

Our bones are dried and our hope is lost
We're completely gone

Dry bones
Hear the word of the lord
I will make breath enter you
Dry bones
Hear the word of the lord
You will come to life

Come from the four winds o' breath
and breathe into these slains that they may live

Come from the four winds o' breath
and breathe into these slains that they may live

Dry bones
Hear the word of the lord
I will make breath enter you
Dry bones
Hear the word of the lord
You will come to life

TED

Some speaches about a lot of...stuff. Almost every one of these speeches was a revelation for me.
I would summarize the stile as - diversity of diversities - and the activity as - unsubstantial and non-profit, yet immensely up-to-date and relevant.

The Minard Map

The advance into (1812) and retreat from (1813) Russia by Napoleon’s Grande Armée, which was decimated by a combination of the Russian winter, the Russian army and its scorched-earth tactics.
This is an actual geographical map, but with some extras. The two stripes (light-yellow/black) represent the French army forth and back from Moscow. Every millimeter loss in thickness means the death of 10.000 man.
